Pinstripe suits added to Indochino's Collection

Indochino Professor Pink Suit
The Financial Architect Suit - 529$

Today Indochino added 4 new pinstripe suits to their non-permanent collection. It's not really a new collection, just some additions. The trend of offering high-quality Chinese fabrics (more about it here in a recent interview with CEO Kyle Vucko) continues and so does the trend of comparably high prices. I just recently found an old Indochino ad online - the price for a Charcoal Suit was 199$ including a free shirt - today a suit can cost you 549$. Of course, the 199$ dollar suit was probably a polyester blend while today's suits are either 100% wool or a wool/cashmere, wool/silk blend with a much improved construction quality.

The Financial Architect Suit pictured above is probably the boldest addition to the lot - it is basically a silk suit (43% silk, 57% wool), so it has got quite the sheen to it.  "subtly shiny silk" they call it on the Indochino website. The other 3 suits are all quite nice looking to me, but as I just got a 3-piece suit I'm not overly thrilled by the additions. That "Legal Counsel" suit pictured just below would definitely be a good choice if you are looking for a light gray suit and you want a better fabric than the (rather basic) Ultimate Gray suit.

Legal Counsel Gray 3-piece Suit - 499$

The Deal Closer Suit - 549$

The Professor Pink Suit - 549$

Probably we will see a bigger collection in April, last year around it was a special Linen suit collection. I wouldn't mind having another one like that this year, soon the tweed suits will be too heavy for the rising spring temperatures!

In other news, I received my Indochino Associate 3-piece suit yesterday and wore it today for work. The fabric is extremely nice, feels like it's very high quality (e.g. compared to the Ultimate Gray Suit, which is still one of my favorites). The suit fits great as usual, the vest will probably need a remake - it's 1-2" too long in the front. By the way, the color of the suit is gray, but it has much more of an orange hue compared to the photos on the website. Also, the buttonholes on my suit are not in black, but in gray. Full review to follow soon!

Pink pinstripes? Brown suit with pinstripes? I might have lost all confidence in Indochino and may have already received my last suit from them. I want cotton and linen suits or light weight wool suits. Again another disappointment.

Oh and what is with the shirt collection? It's like they aren't even trying anymore. No basic white shirts and no solid colors. What the hell are they doing?

Not entirely against the new collection (barring those god-awful shirts but those were already released). Not interested in silk blend personally but probably not bad. Unfortunately pushing over $500 mark excludes me from future purchases. I'm still interested, but only at sub-$400...hopefully they'll be issuing some 20% + 2 free sometime soon or they wont be seeing my business!

Those are lightweight suits. If you want a lightweight wool suit, you're looking at anything above a super 140 wool, which is extremely expensive. The silk/wool blend suit is perfect for summer

I'm still waiting for my navy blazer remake and that will determine whether I purchase from Indo again or not. If all goes well, I'll order the professor pint suit.

You mentioned that your vest is 1-2 inches to long; how so? My taste in a suit is modern but classic and I never liked the vests they featured (to short for my opinion). Was the vest in question not as short as the one featured in the pictures on the website?

Still rather not wear pink stripes and have a sheen on my suit.

How long did you wait for your suit?

around 5 weeks, quite long!

Good question regarding the vest. It's my first 3-piece suit, so I figured the vest should look like on their models and stop shortly above the trousers. My vest goes a bit (1 inch) below that line and covers the belt. I can take a pic later. What do you think a good fit would be?

Lorenz said...

I am hoping for some coupons too, the price increase is really significant without coupons around!

Lorenz said...

I don't get this either. Would be easy to add some basic shirts again, right?

I see that you know how to spell "Legal Counsel."
BTW, dont't shorten that vest! It would look horrid with a gap between the vest and trouser top.

Richardff said...

OK, I see that the Indochino site corrected the spelling from "Legal Council" to Legal Counsel."
Now if they would only instruct their models to wear their vests properly with the last button unbuttoned.

Lorenz said...

yeah quite the mistake - I remember their first suits also had both buttons done ;)
About the vest, I'll post a pic later today and you guys can tell me what you think? Would appreciate the opinion!

Traditionally, a vest should fall about an 1 to 1.5 inches past the waist line. When the vest is buttoned, it should cover the belt/waist line. The sartorialist in me said the vests are to short on the models. Scroll down and you will see quite a few pics of three piece suits: http://the-shoe-snob.blogspot.com/2011/01/on-way-to-lorsdship-edward-greens-three.html

Thanks for the link Ioan! Judging from that last pic from GQ I must've been lucky - that's probably how my vest fits. I have to recheck today and will post a pic here :) Thanks again!

I like the look of the Associate, but I worry about overheating in a tweed suit. Do you find it overly warm?

Lorenz said...

It depends on the temperature, I'd say - it was around 15°C when I wore it and it didn't feel too hot then. It's definitely not a suit made for the summer though!

Not sure how long this has been there, but even after 3 suits I need different measurements, a pain in the ass given the lack of consistency. My profile has been locked for awhile and I dont actually know what my REAL measurements are...

"Changes to measurements should be relative to your last garment measurements and not your original measurements.

You can change your measurements by -4 to +4 inches, round to the nearest 0.25 inches.

Indochino reserves the right to refuse Remakes or Alteration credits if your measurements have been unlocked."

I received my cotton khaki suit and it fits and looks great. The quality on the buttons seems like a step up. I don't see any loose threads. The shoulders look good, I opted for the normal shoulders and the amount of padding is good, not too much and not too little. I gained a few pounds and changed a couple measurements and it turned out perfectly. I am very pleased with the suit. I hope they will make some more cotton suits soon because I could use some more. I received it exactly one month from the order being placed. The new suit bag is definitely better than what was being given out last year.

seems your confidence in Indochino is restored a bit? Cool the suit turned out so well! I'm in need of a khaki one as well and hope they come up with some linen or light cotton suits next time around! I think I read a hint about that on Twitter recently from one of their guys!

Lorenz said...

I think the profile locks automatically, doesn't it? I just do the changes I want each time around, but luckily I never needed to test their willingness for a remake...

Jack Whitman said...

Yes definitely.

I hope that is true about the linen and light cotton suits! I will be definitely checking.

For your info: I ordered on March 15th (The Diplomat Suit) and received my shipment noticification today, should arrive by wednesday (Germany). So I guess were back to 14 days delivery now.

Lorenz said...

Cool, thanks for letting me know! Would be great if they ship faster again :)

Maybe if you're in a dull and ultra conservative office! A pink pinstripe is quite fun and a little sheen adds that foward edgy appeal. I don't believe Indochino is trying to attract that boring navy boxy wide lapel crowd. Go to your un of the mill department store for those!

I just ordered the Legal Counsel suit, and I have high hopes. I own the classic navy suit which I love (and is my favorite suit). I was a little concerned by some of the things I read about Super 180 wool, but we'll just have to see! I hope that as long as the minor changes I made in measurements don't throw off the whole thing that it'll be a great suit!

Lorenz said...

Hope it works out well for you Rick - let us know if you find the time!

Yup, today's fabrication of black pinstripe suit or any color of pinstripe suit are made of wool to make it more comfortable, high quality and light weight to carry.

These type of suits are good to be given as gift for fathers day, especially to those who are in business, a special suit for dad is going to be a great idea for sure.
