Indochino Superhero Collection 2012
Indochino Superhero Collection - Suits from 429$
The Superhero Collection. I think a lot of Indochino fan are, at least to some degree (including myself), geeks. And the superhero theme clearly caters towards the geek niche. Sure, not everyone who buys Indochino suits is a young geek straight out of college. However, that's not the point. Indochino releases new collections every other month, it's only logical that not every collection gets the approval of each and every customer.

What has to be said is that the marketing campaign on the Superhero Collection is done exceptionally well. The imagery is fantastic, so is the trailer video. They got the PR from the right websites (MTV Geek for example) and they have plenty of followers spreading their excitement about the new collection on the various social media channels.

The suits, by the way, are pretty cool too. They are not exactly cheap (compared to e.g. the Essential Suits), because Indochino is using fabrics made of 100% Australian Merino Wool on all suits and this material doesn't come cheap. Furthermore, some of the fabrics are sourced from Italian mills (as opposed to Chinese mills Indochino is using for many suits - not that it's a bad thing).

Suits start at 429$ and go up to 499$ for some of the fabrics. Vests are available at an additional 80$ and there is also a number of nice new ties and pocket squares (29$ or a set of 3 for 69$).

Special Customization Options:
The Superhero Collection comes with a number of new customization options
  • 4 bold new linings designed exclusively for the Superhero Collection.
  • Contrast buttonholes (last cuff buttonhole) and boutonniere in a color coordinating with the lining you chose. Don't forget to choose this from the "more options" menu.
  • Magnetic lapel pins, different for each of the new suits. Who of you will actually wear it?
Let's take a look at some of the new suits. I selected some of my personal favorites, more are available at Indochino.

Before, I forget, there is also the Indochino Superhero Contest that is worth participating:
Win $10.000 worth of custom apparel (a generous amount and a fun quiz too!)

What do you guys think about the new collection? Is the superhero theme a fitting choice for Indochino's suits or do you think it's maybe too geeky? Maybe less focus on marketing and more focus on quality control would be better? I'm curious to hear your opinions!

I love the superhero campaign! It's a little cheesy but not in a bad way. This is by far my favorite product line release from Indochino. I think the suits look awesome, the shirts are great and the accessories are cool. The color flair isn't too loud so it's not risqué fashion, it's classy style without being too formal or too professional. The price isn't too bad either. I dig it a lot!

I agree Jon. Was a bit suspicious when I saw the trailer last week, but I think the whole thing is just done really well and deserves credit. Liking the suits too, wish the patterns would look like in the promo shots (they used quite a bit of post-processing on those).

Is this a joke?

Overall I think it's a nice line. The magnetic pins look cheap, but think about the fun possibilities you could have with other magnetic objects. If I had one I'd make my own.

Is anyone surprised the linen line disappeared? I thought they looked really sharp, and we're just starting to get into the hottest part of summer.

Correction: the Brown linen suit is still available. Maybe they just ran out of fabric for the other colors.

a bit tongue-in-cheek perhaps.

I think they were a bit overwhelmed by demand, it already sold out once before and they restocked on the fabrics. Apart from the Essential suits, all suits have a limited availability.

Overall, how is the quality of Indochino shirts? Just as good as what you might get at the mall?

Lorenz said...

Hey Kevin, what really sets them apart is the fit. Fabrics are nothing special with a few exceptions (my Indochino Tattersall shirts for example feel great), but they are 100% cotton and durability is good too. You could also check out hallmadden.com, they are a good alternative.

Is it me or do the button holes and boutiners holes look different? They aren't keyhole shaped anymore.

Frenchy said...

Ok I lied just the boutiniere holes are different, I guess I was hoping the buttons were too

Lorenz said...

Yeah. I think they haven't been keyhole shaped for quite a while now though

Any plan to review the Superhero raincoat (yellow or the grey) in detail? Or has anyone else bought it and what did you think?

Lorenz said...

No plans for a review from me, sorry.
